Sacred Heart of Jesus as a model of gentleness

Gentleness is a necessary virtue. It is proven without doubt that gentleness is an essential quality to lead a blessed and peaceful earthly life. Sacred Heart of Jesus is a model of this priceless virtue. All throughout His life, especially during passion Jesus has shown amazing gentleness. He bore all afflictions silently like a lamb. The one who created the stars in the sky, fish in the deep ocean and all creatures in the world, patiently suffered all iniquities and injuries thrusted upon Him by the Jews. At the end of Jesus’ three years of public ministry when Judas betrays Him, He does not reproach him.

Instead He lovingly said to him, “Friend, do what you have come for. “When Peter thrice denied knowing Jesus, our Lord did not show even a bit of aversion but by his graceful glance beckoned Peter to repentance. When St. Thomas was doubtful about the resurrection of Jesus, He appeared before him and allowed him to touch His Sacred Heart. All throughout His life, up until His painful death Jesus behaved in a very gentle manner.

Let us follow this model of our lord and leader. Being the disciple of one who treated even His enemies with love and tenderness, is it proper for us to hate our brothers? Do we fervently try to imitate Jesus by praying for our enemies? Let us try to follow the gentleness of our Lord.

INVOCATION

Sacred Heart of Jesus, worthy of all adoration! Source of all consolation! When I contemplate Your gentleness and patience I understand the penury of my spirituality. Sacred Heart of my sweet Savior! I pray to You, remembering Your patience and gentleness to replace my vicious heart with the gentleness of Your heart.

Grant to Your Church, O Lord, assurance of freedom, protect our Supreme Pontiff and make haste that all may know the haven of truth, and have unity of faith, so that there may soon be one fold and one Shepherd! Lord, be merciful to the unfortunate sinners, console the souls in Purgatory and be merciful to me, your unworthy servant. O Immaculate Heart of Mary, O Mother of all blessings, I firmly believe that through your powerful intercession, all my prayers and petitions will be granted. Amen

Let us pray

Almighty and eternal God, look upon the Heart of Thine most-beloved Son, and upon the praises and satisfaction He offers Thee in the name of sinners; and appeased by worthy homage, pardon those who implore Thy mercy, in Thy Great Goodness in the name of the same Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.
