Love and Wisdom – the two sides of the same coin
~ Brother Thomas Paul ~
The Catechism of the Catholic Church, in paragraph 295 states that God created the heavens and the earth by Wisdom and Love.
In all our prayers, we are constantly asking God for something or the other. We fail to believe that the Almighty God created us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. The Catechism of the Catholic Church has the answers to all our questions. It is hence important to have a copy of this book in our homes. Understanding this is wisdom too.
The Holy Spirit is our helper. The hymns we compose and sing can lack Wisdom but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can avoid that inadequacy. There are times when the Holy Spirit will inspire us with the lyrics and tunes in our sleep.
The hymns we sing does not normally give us the experience of the Holy Spirit as a person. The Holy Spirit is the fount of Wisdom. It is hence important to develop a greater understanding of the Holy Spirit as a person( which will make things easier). It is imperative to rectify our misconceptions. We regard the Holy Spirit as wind..fire…dove..
These are only symbols of the Holy Spirit. It originates from the Holy Spirit’s (as a person’s) benevolence..endurance and wisdom.
The fire is symbolic of the experience of an all – consuming state of love, a fiery passion for the love of God…a state that the Holy Spirit(as a person) creates in us. We receive love from a person. Love is a personal relationship. We can experience the gentle embrace and affection of the Holy Spirit when we hold on to this concept. The divine power of the Holy Spirit will lead us to the experience of God’s love and affection. We read about this in the book of Psalms.
We must advance in our journey to acquire Wisdom by reading and studying the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church. Wrong Information from different sources can cause confusion and lead us astray. Pope Paul VI in one of his writings clearly states that we must only follow only Jesus Christ’s teaching…Jesus, Himself, the Good News …the very first and the greatest Evangelist. The Good News centred on the Kingdom of God.
Let us come back to the Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 295…
The title of this paragraph is.. ‘The Mystery of Creation’.
God created the world according to His Wisdom and Love.
Let us take a coin as an example to understand. A coin has two sides…one side is Love and the other Wisdom. God is Wisdom and God is Love like the two sides of the same coin. Love without Wisdom cannot be right.
Psalms 9:9
‘With you is Wisdom, she who knows your works…
And was present when you made the world;
She understands what is pleasing in your sight and what is right according to your commandments.’
God created the world according to His Wisdom. God wanted to make His creatures share in His being, wisdom and goodness…and hence created us in his own image and likeness.
Revelation 4:11
‘You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive Glory and Honour and Power,
For you created all things and by Your Will they exist and were created’.
Psalms 104:30
‘When you send your Spirit, they are created and you renew the face of the earth’.
The first part of creation is when you breathe in the breath of life…You make everything new. This is the work of the same Wisdom..the same Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit renews everything and makes everything new. Jesus not only came to redeem us but also make all things new….Jesus came to make all things new..to change the face of the earth.
When we abound with the power of the Holy Spirit, our appearance changes too. The world will notice this change and ask us about it…this is when we will realize it.
The Creator created everything from nothing…this is the first part…the second part is renewal and making everything new. God first created Adam, then through Jesus, the second Adam, renewed everything and made everything new.
We are created but we are still in God’s mighty hands. (CCC 295 and 301)He upholds and sustains us every moment….
2 Maccabbes 7:28
‘I beg you, my child, to look at the heaven and the earth and see everything that is in them..and recognize that God did not make them out of things that existed. And in the same way the human race came into being’.
